What Hybrid Laser Treatment Is

Laser Treatment + Ozone Treatment

Hybrid laser treatment is a minimally invasive herniated disc treatment with the goal of combining the advantages of both laser (PLDD) treatment and those of ozone (PODD) treatment by doing them at the same time. The advantage of laser treatment is that it reduces the pressure inside the intervertebral disc that is the cause of herniation; the advantage of ozone treatment is that it alleviates the nerve inflammation caused by herniation. Because the treatments’ respective advantages differ, high effectiveness can be anticipated by combining them.

How Hybrid Laser Treatment Is

With the patient under local anesthesia, and while using an X-ray fluoroscope so as not to cause nerve damage, we place a 1.0 mm thick paracentesis needle into the intervertebral disc. Then we decompress the nucleus pulposus with a laser. After that, we finish by injecting ozone in proportion to the damage. We use a special 1.0 mm (paracentesis) needle that makes it possible to perform laser treatment and ozone treatment at the same time.

    Hybrid laser treatment is effective for herniated discs with especially high internal pressure that have not prolapsed from the ligaments and have mild to moderate herniation. In cases of prolapse or separation, PIDD or DST will be an effective treatment method.

How Treatment Is Done and Treatable Conditions

Hybrid laser treatment removes the cause of pain by decompressing the intervertebral disc that is protruding and placing pressure on the nerves. In this treatment approach, as in PLDD and PODD, we use X-ray fluoroscopy from the back and pierce into the intervertebral disc with a 1.0 mm (paracentesis) needle. By sticking laser fiber through the needle and shining a laser into the protruding intervertebral disc (its nucleus pulposus), we evaporate and eliminate the nucleus pulposus, and we remove the part that is the root cause of pain. Furthermore, this is a treatment effective in using the anti-inflammatory effect of ozone to take away pain by injecting ozone from a needle, as in PODD. In particular, this treatment’s distinction is that it is more effective than conventional PLDD or PODD treatment.

Hybrid laser treatment is effective for herniated discs with especially high internal pressure that have not prolapsed from the ligaments and have mild to moderate herniation. In cases of prolapse or separation, PIDD or DST will be an effective treatment method.

A hole is made by cauterizing the nucleus pulposus inside the intervertebral disc with a laser, and the disc is caused to shrink.

Ozone is injected into the inflamed area through the tip of the inserted needle, and inflammation is reduced.

About Post-Treatment Issues
When the intervertebral discs have been damaged, there is concern about the recurrence rate just as there is with surgery. The reason is that, like with surgery, repair of the intervertebral disc itself cannot be done. To lower the possibility of recurrence, PIDD (percutaneous implant disc decompression) or DST (Discseel™ treatment) is necessary.
